Wine Pub: Powered by the King

Thailand has always been a beer and whiskey sort of place -- wine bars are few and pricey. Though the nation began flirting with wine production a couple of decades ago, so far the industry has yielded middling results and the available-in-every-7-11 Spy wine cooler.

Luckily Bangkok has Wine Pub, a smart, swanky venue with over 100 wines from around the world. Set in a dark, richly-designed space on the second floor of the Pullman Hotel -- owned in part by Thailand’s duty-free giant, King Power -- Wine Pub's deep set booths, soothing beats (its nightly DJ actually understands volume control) and reliable tapas menu make it a tempting place to drink and nosh the night away.

A selection of entrees, beers and cocktails is also available. While the wines aren't cheap, Pullman's duty-free connections and Wine Pub's daily specials (Thursday is cold cuts and cheese night, Saturday offers all you can eat tapas) guarantee you'll be getting a deal.
